Lam's market is an old style corner market. They used to have regular products in there but now I would say 99% of the stuff is pretty much hot food. Pay attention to the days and hours that they open and closed. Sundays they're closed and they do close early. I've been coming to this place for years and I think they found their stride.

I can't even remember the first time I came to Lam Kwong. It's just always sort of been there. Whenever I'm craving a quick dim sum bite I pop in and I'm getting my fix within 5 minutes. Located in downtown Sacramento, Lam Kwong looks like it was built first and the rest of the neighborhood came next. The building is definitely older than me and maybe even a lot of you too. Nothing flashy about this place. It's less than 1000 square feet inside but they have some of the best har gow I've ever had. When trying other places I'm reminded of that, respectfully. Their sui mai is meaty in flavor and texture. I make sure to always grab at least a couple while stopping in. The pork buns here are so fluffy and full of juicy meat. I could eat a dozen but I'd end up shaped like one so I don't. I was just here yesterday, in and out so quick I didn't even check in on the Yelp app or take a pic. But my order was one pork bun, three har gow, and two sui mai. Total was under $10. This place is as affordable as they are good. Service here is excellent. It's an old mom and pop spot. I always tell the older lady "keep the change." She smiles and says thanks and I feel like I did my good deed for the day, win win.

Decided to try this place after numerous recommendations for take-out dim sum items; boy I should've listened long ago! Upon entering, storefront was simple, as was the inside (typical Asian mom and pop) with some retail snack items and to-go containers stacked from the ground up. On the wall they have print media of positive write-ups and recognitions from reputable publications. The owners behind the counter were friendly and welcoming. Ordered their baked bbq pork buns, which was the only reason for stopping in. $53 later, I went home with har gow (shrimp dumplings), shrimp with chives, golden yellow, plump/juicy fried chicken drums (you can tell it was fried in clean oil), pineapple bun with custard, and a piece of 1/2 lean, 1/2 fat bbq pork. All items were priced reasonably compared with other to-go dim sum places, i.e. ABC, Dim Sum House. Food was fresh and hot when I started devouring them a half hour later at home. Bbq pork bun was perfect: bun, filling, amount of filling. Too bad this place is quite away from my house; but if I'm in the neighborhood I'd def stop by Lam Kwong and get some genuine dim sum offerings to go!

I discovered this hidden gem about three years ago when I had recently began orientation work for a job. I was looking for a quick Chinese lunch and came across Lam Kwong Ever since then every time we're looking for a quick and good Chinese lunch spot this is our go to. They have some of the best chow mein in Sacramento and also some cheap dimsum items. Their ha gao and siu mai are definitely top three in Sacramento for us. Their lunch specials are also GREAT and cheap. It's a really homie spot once you walk in with a small table in there but it's hardly rare to see anyone actually utilizing it as it's really only a takeout spot. It does suck that it's a cash only spot, I personally wouldn't mind having to pay like a dollar more for that . Be prepared to bring in some bills in order to obtain the goods. Other than that make sure to pay them a visit when you're in the downtown area and looking for delicious Chinese

Small market in Downtown Sac that's been here for many, many years. It's cash only. Great place for baos; the baked cha siu baos are my favorite menu item. Affordable & good food. They do sell out of things, so it's better to come in the earlier hours.

Family ran, small business selling dim sum and hot Chinese food. CASH only. The dim sum recipes are old school Cantonese. The hot food is classic Americanized Chinese. The place is not fancy. I usually go there the first thing in the morning when they open at 8am. They already have a selection of fresh dim sum and fried chicken (drumsticks and thighs). They have BBQ pork buns, pineapple buns, cocktail buns, hot dog buns, shu mai, har gow always at the morning get go at 8am. They might even have sesame balls, ham sui goo (fried pork filled glutinous rice dumplings, fried chicken, and egg custards ready to go. I enjoy all the dim sum. Plus the fresh fried chicken in the morning makes for a tasty breakfast. The nondescript shop is on the corner of U and 12th Street in the urban downtown suburb. It's across the street from an elementary school. Parking is free street parking with more spots across the street on U Street (those are pull in spots).

I've been wanting to check out this little gem. This place has your basic dim sum items and some hot entry. I was craving shu mai, so I decided to check this place out before work. When I first enter in, I was greeted by the worker. I new exactly what I wanted. I got a Cha Sui Bao, Ha Gao, and Shu Mai. Everything tasted good, but the highlight of the show was the Cha Sui Bao. The bun was full of meat. The bun was also more on the sweeter side which was interesting, probably from the honey on the bun. Overall, I would come back for the buns and to try their hot food. This place is more of a grab and go place, not really a place to sit down and have a nice meal. Overall I highly recommend this place. It's a hidden gem!
